Pre-Course Assignment: 

1. Watch this cohort welcome video. Then take some time to respond to the questions below. (This includes a recap of the questions at the end of the video.
2. Come to to cohort meeting prepared to discuss. Our cohort is an open forum for questions, concerns, excitements, and wonder! 
   
   

Questions to Ponder: 

• How comfortable or uncomfortable are you with the idea that we are “pastors” or “shepherds” on campus? 
• What questions or thoughts do you have about the Big Idea: “Healthy campus missionaries stay close to Jesus, close to students, and intentionally develop leaders.” 
• In the video, Kevin notes that, “Over time, we discover that God's greatest gift isn't always direction—it's His presence.” How have you discovered that in your own life? 
• What are the goals of programs and relationships? Have you thought about InterVarsity's work on your campus in these terms before? How could this change the way you think about and plan for events and relationships? 

Questions from the Video: 

• Am I making space to be with Jesus and hear the Holy Spirit, or am I just trying to get answers from God? 
  • Prepare to share 2 things YOU personally do (or want to do) to cultivate time and space to be with Jesus. 
• Am I close enough to students to know their stories and struggles? How would God call me to “smell like sheep”? 
  • We like to say that our staff “log the hours”— meaning, we spend lots of time with students on campus and in life. What would it be like if you spent 60% of your hours ON campus or WITH students? 
• Am I building a ministry that depends on me or am I developing leaders who will reach others? 
  • Talk to your staff team. Ask them what systems are in place to equip students to train others. Hearing their answers might give you new insight.
